Sleep Medication Free Important Guide

Physician prescribed sleep medication is sure enough a way to getting a better night of sleep but it is not something that should be your first option when attempting to get to sleep. It is a fact that these sorts of sleep aids are the absolute last option for folks not able to get to sleep after all else has failed. Medicinal drugs exist that would be helpful, but you should always attempt solutions that you can obtain over the counter rather than doctor prescribed.

Medicine that is prescribed by doctors is going to contain elements that are designed to relax the body, the mind and promote sleep. The primary ingredient is often tryptophan a chemical which increases serotonin and melatonin which are used by the body to promote sleep. If these two important chemicals are missing it often creates the inability to sleep or leads to a restless sleep.

Many of the over the counter sleeping medications are included with painkillers like the ones that soothe headaches or medications for muscle aches. These should be considered after safer ways of getting to sleep have not worked or have proven to be ineffective in resolving the problem. If the things you are getting over the counter are not effective with the desired results then you may be forced to talk with your primary health care provider.

Your primary care physician can give you alternatives for approaching that desperately needed night’s rest and to find out what is causing your inability to obtain a good night’s sleep. If you have already considered physical things such as lighting and temperature and you have attempted such things as creating an established routine there may be other things that could cause your inability to sleep.

One cause could be RLS or restless leg syndrome or it might be that you are quite simply an easy sleeper and somewhat insignificant noises wake you up. In this case you may require additional help from your primary care physician in the form of a sleeping pill. These alternatives could be pain killers, muscle relaxing pills or simply medications that are listed as strictly sleep aids and are designed to act as tranquilizers.

The types of strong medications or tranquilizers are constructed to provide you with a full night’s sleep by putting your body and mind in the correct state to facilitate a perfect night’s sleep. They resolve a number of issues such as those found with light sleepers. You should be wary of the side effects of these medications in that they can leave you feeling groggy if you end up having to wake up prior to your full eight hours of rest. You should keep in the back of your mind that doctor prescribed medicines that are sleep aids are not for daily use and are issued only when you need a few days sleep.

The best idea would be to try a variety of methods to getting a good night’s sleep before getting into physician prescribed pills. If nothing else helps though then consuming tranquilizer-type medications may be your only option because most people who use sleep aids manage to establish a healthy sleeping routine.
